Site History:
Starrbright, a 4-ha clear-cut, was logged during May and June 1991 and broadcase-burned with a moderate intensity fire in September 1991.
Soils:
Soils were formed from deep layers of volcanic ash and contain few rocks.
Vegetation:
Tsuga heterophylla zone. Before harvest, the site supported a mature to old-growth forest of Pseudotsuga menziesii, Tsuga heterophy7lla and Thuja plicata. The understory was dominated by an evergreen shrub layer of Berberis nervosa, Gaultheria shallon and Rhododendron macrophyllum.
Climate:
strongly Mediterranean with coll wet winters and warm dry summers. Winter snowpack is intermittent.
