D		Dominant: Crown emerges from the general canopy layer and receives light from the top and the sides
E		Emergent: crown extends completely above the canopy of the stand (only used in Stand RS39 in 1992 and HJHE stands)
I		Intermediate: Crown extends into the lower portion of the general canopy layer and receives mostly filtered light from the top and the sides
O		Open grown: the tree is not taller than other trees in the stand but still receives light from all directions (e.g., a small tree growing in a canopy gap would be considered open grown). Only used in HJHE stands.
S		Suppressed: Crown completely beneath the general canopy layer
