PURPOSE:
This database was developed to document the recovery of vegetation and spread of populations. A major goal is that other researchers will use the data for meta-analyses and to test particular hypotheses.
METHODS:
Experimental design - TV071:
Description: Grid established where topography was varied. Contiguous plots used to document invasion and expansion of species.
Field Methods - TV071 :
Description: Ten by 10 m plots. Cover estimated visually according to the index reported in data set. Species covering over 8 m are recorded to the nearest meter.
Statistical Methods - TV071 :
Description: Data are summarized using an ad hoc program in EXCEL (prepared by Lara Rozzell). For some studies, values above 8 m are transformed: 9 to 16 m = 9; 17 to 32 m = 10, etc.
Processing procedure - TV071:
Description: Data are entered into the program and a spreadsheet that mimics the field sheet is created. This is used to locate errors. The program summarizes the data in several ways.

The research program is summarized at: http://faculty.washington.edu/moral/mount.html. This site has links to recent research, papers and data summaries. Data summaries are available at: http://faculty.washington.edu/moral/pdf/2005Grids.pdf. This page provides overall summary of selected sites and at: http://protist.biology.washington.edu/delmoral. This site includes the latest update summaries for all grids. The index score for each species in each plot in each year is shown. For each plot in each sample year, richness, the total index score, diversity and an estimate of percent cover (based on back-transformations) are presented. Field notes remain archived by PI, Hitchcock Hall, University of Washington, Seattle.
