METHODS:
Experimental Design - TS015 :
Description: One Douglas-fir and one western hemlock tree was sampled at each old-growth site were sampled at top, middle, and bottom crown strata in June, August and September, 1986. Three Douglas-fir at each young-growth site and three Snowbrush (Ceanothus velutinus) on Watershed 6 (site 7) were sampled in June, August and October.
Field Methods - TS015 :
Description: Old-growth trees were initially climbed with spikes and rigged with ropes for later canopy access. All samples collected by enclosing a branch in a 50-l plastic bag and returned to the lab. All samples were sorted under a stereoscope into invertebrate, foliage, lichen, and twig components. Plant material was dried at 45 degrees.
