KEYWORDS:
Primary production, communities, populations, Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER), plant ecology, population dynamics, stand density, succession, primary production, growth, fertilization, fertilizer, forests, plants
METHODS:
Experimental Design - TP088 :
Description: Four replications of 3 density levels each. In a split-plot design we will establish two urea fertilization treatments (fertilized and unfertilized) in each density level, and two pruning treatments (pruned and unpruned) in each fertilization treatment. This establishes 12 treatment combinations per replication.Within each treatment combination a 50 tree measurement plot will be established.
Field Methods - TP088 :
Description: Thinning - density reduced to 15% and 25% of maximum stand density. Fertilization - area added at 50kg/ha/year until new September foliage contains 2% N. Additional applications to maintain this level. Pruning - the meet crown width criterion (see study plan). Height, diameter, and sapwood area will be measured for a sample of trees every second year.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

The changes listed below were made before moving to sql server:

format 2 had the 1981 remeasurement and was renamed to tp882.old

the new format 2 combines

tp882 (1981), tp884 (1983), tp889 (1985), tp8812 (1987), and tp8815 (1996)

into a single file.

the 1993 remeasurement (rem93.dbf) in the old fsdb was not included because the field work was deficient.
