Description:

From 1976 to 1990 fine litter was collected in 6 traps (1*1 m) at each site at 3 to 4 week intervals unless buried by snow. Since 1990 litter has been collected in 6 traps 29 cm in diameter (0.066 m2).

6 traps randomly located on a diagonal grid across the 50m x 50m square plots. Litter collected every 3-6 weeks except in the winter at the highest elevation sites. Standing litter biomass estimated in 10-.1 m sq plots. RS13, RS14 are young growth forests; the rest are old-growth. Litter traps made of 2 x 4 inch wood frames 1 sq meter in area with nylon mosquito netting and support wire. Material oven dried at 70 deg C for at least 24 hr. Litter separated and weighed to nearest 0.01 g. 14 categories for sorting. From June 1978 on,"unattached needle weights.
